As the eldest of 10 children, Dan learned three important skills early in life: responsibility, hard work and the value of collaboration. Those three skills have served him well through a successful professional career.
With a Bachelor of Business Administration from St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia and a Chartered Accountant designation from the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, Dan has held a variety of prominent positions in Canada, England, and the United States. His longest term was a 17-year period with Irving Oil Ltd., where he filled various operational and financial roles before becoming Corporate Controller in 2007.
A man passionate about the unique culture and opportunities of family-run businesses, one of Dan’s many passions is assisting these organizations through transitions. He combines the skills learned in his own large family and experiences gained from working in family owned businesses to support owner/managers through the unique challenges that exist in a time of corporate and family transition.
In January of 2015, Dan became Powell Christensen’s new Chief Financial Officer. A compassionate and empowering leader, he graciously acknowledges the value of all employees—from the boardroom to the front line. And when the going gets tough, he’s not afraid to take risks, get creative or make difficult decisions. His skillset combined with his expertise in business, finance, technology, and change management will be welcome assets as we continue to grow.
